Pink Ribbon Drive 2020

“Kasturi Foundation celebrates the month of October to spread awareness of the importance of Breast Screening. In previous years we had our Pink Ribbon Drive held at different places like cooperate buildings – GIA India laboratory (Trade center), BJP’s Swatch Bharat Abhiyan near Sion Fort, in the local trains, Good Shepherd Church, Bhajan Group (Seven bungalows), St. Vincent Pallotti Church, Mohan Azad’s Workshop, Sion Welfare forum, Lion Kartar Singh Hospital, Innerwheel Club of Bombay, YMCA and at Readers Club.”

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth of cells, which results in formation of lumps within the breast and is known to be the most common cancer among women worldwide.

Tips for Prevention

  • Women should be aware as to how their breast normally look and feel. If you feel any change, consult the doctor
  • Advisable for women who are around 40 to get their mammography done
  • For new mothers, it is advisable to breastfeed their children at least for one year
  • Don’t smoke or drink alcohol

Breast Cancer in India

  • It is the most common cancer in women in India and accounts for 14% of all cancers in women
  • The incidence rates in India begin to rise in the early 30’s and peak at ages 50-64 years
  • Estimated future trends in total cases per year for breast cancer as per 2040 will be 241,850
  • As per Times of India article – Among women, the total number of incidence cases is estimated to be 7,12,758 in 2020 and likely to reach 8,06,218 in 2025. Breast cancer (2,38,908) is expected to be the most common site of cancer in 2025, followed by cancer in lung (1,11,328) and mouth (90,060).

Myths

Myth: A lump in your breast means you have breast cancer

Fact: Only a small percentage of lumps in the breast are cancerous. But if there is persistent lump consult a doctor.

Myth:Antiperspirants and deodorants cause breast cancer

Fact: As per NH, no scientific evidence links the use of these products to the development of breast cancer
